Help, Quicktime video doesn't have any audio

Ok, I just downloaded the free version of Quicktime to play some download videos online but when I play it I can see the videos but I can't hear anything. The strange thing is that if I watch it online then I can see it and hear it but with statics. If I download the files into my computer and watch it, it just doesn't play back any sounds. Any ideas? Could it be that it's not the default player? How do I make it a default player? What can I do so I can see and hear the video?
