How can I get faster Internet?

I have basic ADSL internet with TalkTalk in Edinburgh. The connection is just ass. At the time I signed up for the 18 month contract, I was told fibre wasn't available in my area. It's the pits anyway, so what did I expect?

Basically, when I run a speed check to see what it is in terms of the upload and download speed, it never goes above 0.5 MBPS. On some sites, there's no option to watch HD videos in the bog standard 110p either, and pausing a video does nothing. It only buffers a little bit, painfully slowly. So ultimately, each time I just get annoyed at this and give up.

There are ways to save videos offline, but even that would take forever. Content creators of course don't appreciate that. But then what am I supposed to do?

I am paying significantly less for unlimited mobile data. I won't post the company here that I am with, due to potential prying eyes. But indoors, the signal is so crap, I have the same problem regardless. I think it's due to the concrete interfering with the 4G reading. Outdoors, I can get a full signal.

The thing is, I have to use a VPN to access blocked content, as the mobile network requests ID to verify I'm over 18, which I don't blame them for. So I cannot exactly view porn or whatever outdoors, in case someone notices.

It's just really frustrating. Does anyone know how to improve my speed in my flat? It's utter dog shit. And TalkTalk get so many negative feedback, that it's nuts.

The first thing is that you are not telling the truth.
If you claim that the signal is normal outside, then you don't have normal WiFi in your apartment or any room, so it means, that there is no WiFi adapter, but it comes from somewhere else through a wall or a window.
Consequently, you are picking up the signal from somewhere else and there is no other way to fix it than to go to a Wi-Fi coverage area or use an antenna or bring Wi-Fi to the room where you need it.
Another thing is the VPN, it is not known which VPN you use, but it is obvious that most of them determine your internet speed and volume.
And finally, if you are a child who loves .... then there is another very serious problem, and that is your mental health.

Before being condescending, maybe understand the post better? Bad signal indoors, and full signal outdoors the OP was referring to cell service. In which case they said they obviously can't watch porn outdoors for obvious reasons. Considering they were old enough to sign up for an internet connection, they're old enough to view porn. They just don't want to be monitored by their ISP/Service provider which is understandable.

You'll have to contact the ISP and hope there's something they can do.

To increase your internet speed you can use a speed booster speed. The internet speed also depends on the location and the distance from the nearest mobile signal tower.

I used to be with Virgin Media, but I had to attend court years ago due to problems I had with former support workers. They were idiots, but that's too long a tale to delve into.

At the time, there was a decision that I couldn't go online. So I handed in my modem and equipment into the court for storage.

Virgin Media never chased up the issue. I gathered I probably couldn't go back to them for not fulfilling my contract, but I don't remember my connection being dog shit. They're one of the best companies in the UK. It's just that I live in a high rise flat, so TalkTalk said fibre is not available in my area.

I then used unlimited data with Giffgaff for a while, which uses the O2 network. But after so much of the goodybag is used up, they "throttle" your speed after you reach the 80 GB mark. It was also awkward getting a proper signal indoors. So I switched to a service with no data capping, and mostly use it outdoors.

That's convenient only in the summer. When the climate becomes colder, I could just go to the mall and use public WiFi to save money.

If you did whatever you're supposed to do legal wise I wouldn't see why the ISP would have a problem unless I'm misunderstanding.

Perhaps stop and ponder what sort of actions might lead to a court banning someone from the internet in this day and age, and seizing all their elecronics, and then consider whether you really want to be helping that person improve their connectivity?
