Well a few elementary schools have banned it. Which promotes sissyism in the United States even more. Let the kids have fun and if they get hurt, let them learn to deal with it. People are so concerned with being sued today that everything is getting regulated. I cant stand it. http://www.cleveland.com/news/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/news/1161257658268090.xml&coll=2

Something similar I read on another forum. I thought it was good.
Those Born 1930-1979!

TO ALL THE KIDS

WHO SURVIVED the
1930's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's !!

First, we survived being born to mothers who may have smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we
rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats,
booster seats, seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and
NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank koolade made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because .

WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were
back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day.

And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computer! s, no Internet or chat rooms.......

WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no
lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays,
made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house
and knocked on the door or rang the bell,
or just walked in and talked to them!

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.

They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned

HOW TO

DEAL WITH IT ALL!

If YOU are one of them . . . CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as
kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives
for our own good.

And while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they
will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!

<-- Born 1977

Oh Yes. I remember those days very well.

I get reminded out that every wednesday night when I am talking to some of the boys in my Scout Troop.

ya when i was little, we all went out to play outside. playing baseball, basket ball, succer, hide and seek, etc... till dark. i never touched computer till i got into high school. i feel sorry for kids these days...especially in the U.S.. it's all about money money money... restricting everything for not getting sued... so sad.

yea its pretty lame and now they banned tag from a few schools.. what the ****?? the good ol days..

That's about right.

That sux. I remember when British Bulldog* and Brandings** got banned.

I am a little surpised that my scouts are still allowed to play Capture The Flag. We normally get at least one of the boys smacked in the face with the flag during each game.

* Same rules as tag, only that you have to tactle them to the ground.
** Line a bunch of kids up against a wall and throw a ball (hardly) at them. Oject of the game was that you much keep a body part touching the wall, however you are not allowed to get hit by the ball either.

DUDE! Be a scout leader (or any other adult youth group helper) some time. The phase I hate the most is "DUTY OF CARE". And this normally means that i need to have eyes on the back of head and tracking system lthat rival's Prof. X's Ceribro in order to look after the little buggers.

I hear stories from my dad of when they would have wars with pellet and BB guns and the occasionaly injury only added the the fun of the game. Now when i tell people that i play paintball they freak out and say it dangerous and promotes violence. I find it amazing how much stuff have changed since my dads childhood. There are good things but there seems to be many bad changes. It really is too bad.

It's been about 12 years since I was an active Scout Youth Member. And a lot has changed.

It seems that every time we talk about thing to bring up with our troop (recreation or service or fund raising), I always seem to get a nudge in the ribs from the other leader letting me "We can do that any more"

Any one here playied FIREBALL SOCCER?
You take a soccer ball, wrap it up with a cloth. Soak the ball in metholated spirits for about a week.
Then set the ball on fire and start playing soccer.

It's a game that boys play, however venture / rover leaders do not want to hear about it..... AT ALL! :amazed:

Oh man, Fireball Soccer sounds like fun. We used to have roman candle wars when we got some mexico. Man those were dangerous but oh so much fun. That fun ended when a neighbor of my friends called the cops on us because she thought we were in endangering our lives. When our parents came out to talk to the police they shrugged them off and walked back inside. :p
