Problem with watching movies from USB on TV?

I wanted to watch some movies this morning. So I connected my USB drive to my DVD player, up come the three options "play disc", "browse usb" and "setup", so naturally I wanted to choose the "browse usb" option, but the tv remote won't let me choose anything but the first one. The left-right buttons on the remote simply won't work when I press them. The options aren't greyed out so I should be able to choose them. What am I doing wrong?

Ok what brand of dvd player do you have by chance ?
If you will look on the back of the dvd player and give me the model or serial number.
Also what type of video formats are you using by chance on your usb drive ?
