Min Equipment to record company meetings

Hi there,

We need to be able to record various meetings at our company and I have been asked to research what hardware (laptop/desktop) specs, suitable microhone and recording software we should be looking to use. Can anyone help.

any basic soundcard with a line-in or mic-in port will work. you can probably find a program for free online that records in .mp3 format or something similar. recording in .wav format will create a HUGE file (which is okay provided you have the hard drive space for it).

for a microphone, you're going to want a condenser mic with a medium-sized to small-sized diaphram (picks up higher frequencies better, will make words more easily heard). also the mic should have omnidirectional capability (picks up sound in a 360º pattern). condenser mics usually need something called Phantom Power. It's a power supply that supplies the needed voltage for the mics.
