Hi,

I am not too savvy here and hope someone can tell me the way to do this.

I have 2 computers side by side one Vista 64 bit and one XP 32 bit sp3.
Both are plugged (hard wired directly plugged in) into the same Linksys wirless
router and both have internet access no problem.
What i cannot seem to do is network the 2 computers together via this router.

Should'nt i be able to connect the 2 systems via the router?
I have tried what I know but im going in circles now and must ask for help.
they don't see each other at all no matter what i do.
I contacted linksys and they said " O sure you can" and then said thats our partner support and whats your credit card number? lol

man o man.
thanks in advance if anyone can simplify this for me.

its not really simple. i had headaches and headaches and headaches trying to run an XP machine with my main server 08 64 bit rig. i finally got the 08 rig to see the XP rig, but i could never get the file sharing to work among NUMEROUS other problems.
you want simple? install vista 64 on the XP rig. not to be a smarty-pants, but that really is the easiest thing IMO.

There is a sticky for this i thought, but i couldn't find it...

Make sure they are both on the same workgroup.
Go to the Vista machine's network and sharing screen and make sure:
-Network is set to private
-Network discovery is on
-File sharing is on

i tried everything, myself. i could make them see each other, but not at the same time. i could never get the file sharing to work both ways EVER. i spent at least 2 weeks trying. once i installed 08 on my HTPC (old XP rig), it took all of 5 minutes to make it work.
im tellin ya man...it is a MAJOR PITA.

Well i made some progress..
I fooled around with my meager Networking skills and got Vista 64 to see and access my XP 32 Shared Doc's folder so I got a one way deal going anyway.
XP box is my work computer but i wanted to be able to access it from my
personal Vista box incase i needed to check something, so thats working.
Thanks gang :)
Ya its that " At the same time " deal with me also.
i got what i needed for the most part but would be nice if this was reasonably easy.

Works for me, although i'm not on the 64 bit Vista, I have Vista on my laptop and XP on my desktop and constantly move files back and forth.
