Downloading Videos and Music Using Real Player

A friend told me he uses Real Player to download Youtube videos and songs from places like Playlist.com. Is this legal? It seems like the feature has been around for a while in Real Player, you'd think if it was illegal they would get sued or something. I just don't want to do it if it isn't legal.

I suppose it's legal so long as you don't watch the videos or listen to the music

Your browser already "records" YouTube videos to play them. I'm not familiar with Playlist... it is does not stream it would be the same thing.

As far as I know it is legal to capture media for private viewing, like a DVR so to speak. Once you go beyond that you can get into dangerous waters.
