best route for career advancement??

Ahh to be young again. The way the job market is for this industry, you need a degree, several certifications and whatever pays you the best. SQL people are hard to find and make great money. Kid, start thinking about your salary now because by the time your old like me, you're gonna need it !!

Good luck and don't give up, its a great field. Try to contact local community colleges or vocational ed centers for a job shadow or part time internship. Get your feet wet first, then decided where to go!

Great advice Eric, I've always been torn - do I get a SQL cert or do some VB stuff humph.. maybe both! =)

Thank you for the advice, I just recently found out that my school has this program that lays out a game plan for any specific career/major you are interested in.

By the way, what would be the best major for such a field? I am guessing Computer Sciences, I just want to be sure.
