I upgraded to one gig of RAM, and I want to go up to 512 MB of AGP aperature, but the max is 256.
It is a dell 4550, with a Phoenix BIOS, help appreciated!

On many motherboards, 512 MB AGP aperture is only available when AGP 8x mode is enabled (when an AGP 8x graphics card is used). I wouldn't set it too high, as a suggestion.
Your Dimension 4550 does not support AGP 8x (Intel 845PE chipset), which means that your card will run in AGP 4x mode and the maximum aperture size available is 256 MB. Lowering aperture can help solve problems such as stuttering, but it is sensible to keep it no lower than 64 MB.
