Potentially the longest thread in history...

Ah, I thought you were saying that we should switch ALL units. That would just be too big of a change.

Not at all, in fact here's a small list of countries that have done exactly that: Metric usage and metrication in other countries
Doable? You bet it is.
Australia only switched properly in 1972, and it took only ~2 years for the whole country to complete the transition. That was in the 1970's too, before things like the internet or other easy news networks were even active. If people can organise it over newspapers/radio/telephone then, it can be done now.

Changing the way we measure things now is more difficult than you would think, and would take ages here. A lot of american cars don't list the metric system anymore, everything from fuel pumps to registers would need to be switched over, a lot of printed items would need changed, and even ovens would need something to show the C temp ranges. Not as simple as one would think, it would actually take quiet awhile here. Technically, it would make it illegal to drive quiet a few cars that don't use or even half mention the metric system on the gauges. After awhile one can figure out a general area for temps, like 32F being 0C, and other ranges, but yea, it won't happen here, not in the near future when it comes to everyday life.

You're right, we had none of these things before and no other country had to overcome those exact same problems when changing measurement systems either..
*cough*

It doesn't happen overnight; like I said for Australia it took roughly 2 years until full adoption across the country. Same problems as before brah, just easier ways to both change a lot of them now and to inform people about the when/where/how of the situation.
It's not going to be easy, but it's not the impossible picture a lot of Americans like to paint.

Merica, we lazy.
