Why would they? There's a shortage of Blu-Ray diodes, lack of porn, and they are more expensive (HD-DVD's are ~$20, BD's are ~$30). The video quality is 100% exactly the same, the only thing that will change is that Sony wants to have complete and total control over the world and everyone and what they do, so they will lose. Just watch, it happened with Beta-Max, it will happen with this.

The only thing I could see happening other than Sony losing the war would be that the majority of movies and players end up being cross compatible, that other something comes along with no DRM that blows them both out of the market.

Well first off sooner or later PS3's are going to be as common as a PS2.

Also the Blu-Ray is going to pack more of a "value punch" for people with home theater sound systems........ The content is going to come with a wide array of audio selections to come along with their movies

Blu-ray can store around 9 hours of HD content vs. HD-DVD which can only store around 5.4 (if both formats are dual layer)

Overall. Blu-Ray is better.
So IMO it is going to win.

lol, by the same hacker! Total pwnage on the entertainment industry.

This is one of the biggest ***** slaps in history!

I wonder if once word REALLY gets out that you can use a xbox360 hd-dvd player on your computer, if hd-dvd sales would go up at all.

The word is out, but MS need to officially support it. It's a USB device, so we should be able to just plug it into any computer and use it. If not, then well ... that's retarded. I'll still get it while I can still play HD-DVD's in 1080p via VGA. I will still retain my control and my unencrypted analog data stream. :)

What was that again? Maybe they are as common as PS2's in STORES. But PS3's sitting on shelves in stores isn't going to make Blu-Ray win, it will make Blu-Ray lose.

??? But they are more expensive. ???

Yeah, that will succeed. Just like Mini-Disc, Beta-Max, SACD, and DVD audio. RIIIIGHT.

Movies are 3 hours at most, so both suffice. Even then, HD-DVD's up to 51Gb have been made, so your statistics are actually incorrect, the truth is that HD-DVD can hold 1GB more than Blu-Ray.

Still have yet to come up with anything, then again neither have I.

The only thing that will sway the industry is the porno, lol.

no ps3's sitting on the shelve here either. They are pretty much selling very steadily. Not as much as a Wii. But they are getting moved out of here.

MY statistics are correct. CURRENTLY your little 51gb HD-DVD does not exist yet in the consumer market. And by the time it does exist blu-ray will have a 100GB capacity

You don't get it ... there is no "your HD-DVD" ... there's no flame war ... theres no "little 51GB HD-DVD" all there is is just "HD-DVD" and "Blu-Ray" and the ONLY difference is storage capacity.

They use the SAME encryption, SAME codec.

25GB is plenty of room, there is no need to have any more than that until we have 2180p movies, which is just absurd and will never happen.

I know a difference! The Blu-Ray disc is a slight shade of blue! Sort of purple-ish, though. This claim is based on the Resistance: Fall Of Man disc.

:D

And about the PS3's ... shall I go and take pictures of the shelves filled with Playstation 3's? Or is this like the Zune, where all the fanboys just THINK they are selling so they just say so ...

Seriously, I had to wait in line 2 hours before Best Buy opened just to get my Wii just this past Sunday. MORE THAN A MONTH AFTER IT WAS RELEASED! There were upwards of 80 people in line, because Best Buy got 60 units in. We walk in and grab out Wii's and guess what? The same 10 Playstation 3s are STILL sitting there in the glass cabinet.

No one wants them anymore. All the fanboys got theirs, and now everyone else in the entire world wants a Wii.

I just don't get why anyone would pay $700 for a game console with a drive that plays next gen discs on the losing side, with HDMI flashing problems and no games. IT MAKES NO SENSE!

There IS a flame war about this, but not HD-DVD/Blu-Ray.

i dont mean to be rude and i respect your views on many things but this is my point and maybe you didnt realize this so you should have read up on it before you called me out on it. because this quote im going to show you isnt about charging to see a movie.

"Just because you buy a DVD to watch at home doesn't give you the right to invite friends over to watch it too. That's a violation of copyright and denies us the revenue that would be generated from DVD sales to your friends," said Glickman. "Ideally we expect each viewer to have their own copy of the DVD, but we realize that isn't always feasible. The registration fee is a fair compromise.

that is directly from the MPAA saying if someone watches a movie you bought they wont buy it. im am proud that because of people like me there is DRM. and the 20 million is what some actors get paid just for showing up. no job is worth that and i will not contribute to there mansion for saying a few lines on set. these are my views, they dont have to agree with yours and its immature to say what i think is flawed because you disagree. is my taste flawed because i like coke and you like pepsi?

Another thing you are wrong about is MP3's. you say it cost nothing? what planet are you on? recording studios cost major bucks, producers, the band, everything.

i have a comment for everything you wrote but it would only be a waste of time to go back at forth. the quote i provide is directly from the MPAA and thats where im coming from. thats all i was saying. again my views are not flawed just because they differ from yours. thats not a very intelligent statement.

Dude, like I said before, the movies cost money to make, and so do DVDs. Movie theatres have to pay their bills and employees. Movie tickets and DVDs are worth buying.

Music costs money to make, thats why they sell CDs and play shows and sell tickets. CDs and concerts cost money, but if you're telling me that it costs Apple $1 to send me a digital file that costs $0 to reproduce then you are freaking insane.
