My schools computer security is garbage.
I was in the library with my friend one day and just as I sign on to my Novell account I see that there is a file in the garbage folder. I immediatly check it out and guess what I found. An email sent to all the staff about the new DeepFreeze password that has been added onto all the computers. (DeepFreeze is a program that deletes any program not previouly loaded on the harddisk) The password was "frosty" and it even had instructions on how to acess the password screen.
My friend and I were astonished, the first thing we did was load Doom 2 on some computers, invited some more friends and statred playing online via Zdaemon.
It wasn't long before the teacher caught us, 1 week banned from the library. No biggie, they didnt know we had the deepfreeze password.
3 weeks had passed, my friend and I decided to change the password to something only we would know, we made up a word not known in the english dictionary and set the new password to most of the computers in the library.
After a while we got bored, it was no fun anymore. So lets do something diffrent. I scripted a program using gamemaker (
www.gamemaker.nl) that would constantly ping the school server once it was launched, to launch it we added a registry key that would activate it on startup.
Now what happened later wasn't very good. It didnt work, and somehow they traced my Novell login from every computer and found out it was me.
The conclusion of the story? They told me that if I removed the program, all the crap I downloaded, gave the passwords back, and wrote a formal appology to the princapal, I woulden't be suspended and I wouldent have my computer privileges taken away. The principal did inform my parents however.
Oh well, at least I didn't get in too much trouble.
