Why cant i shrink my HD!~

So Im trying to shrink my 500GB hardrive with vista and i have 190GB left and its telling me that I cant shrink it at all. I defragged twice. Still wont work.

shrink?
you mean reduce the amount of space that the data takes up?
have you compressed any file that you can that wont mess with Vista
if thats not an option

I don't think you can shrink the system drive.
