I would say that the frame rate dropping would be your graphics card. If I were you and you haven't gotten either 1 of them yet, then you should get the cpu. Yes, the prices will drop, but you will appreciate it at the time.

There have been many tests...and a lot of the newest games don't even see much benefit from 2GB over 1GB in gaming at 1600x1200 RES.

I believe Supreme commander was only upped 1 FPS with an extra gig at 1600x1200 on highest from 37 to 38. I also noticed no difference when I upgraded to another gig....your GPU card is pretty powerful while the P-D is quite weak. I would wait until April 22nd and get one of the new C2D. Preferably an E6320 or just an E4300 for less money...both are great and you will see nice frame upgrades.
