First off, Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I didn't quite know where this would best fit.

Anyway...

I recently built a new desktop computer running windows 8.1
I want to transfer most of, if not all, of the files on my HDD from my laptop (Windows 7) directly to the one on the PC.

Here's the catch.
While building my PC, I forgot to purchase a WIFI adapter, so I can't connect to a homegroup and do anything wirelessly.

Is there some way to transfer files using a male-to-male USB cable, an Ethernet cable, or something like that?

Thanks in advance,
Gabis.

There is also a USB cable that is a newer version of laplink that you can connect directly and do file transfers.

I use one as a backup to my system and it work great.

But then you have to buy extra hardware :p.

Most people will already have a network cable they can steal and use for the transfer - most network cards do auto-detect now anyway and can use a standard ethernet vs requiring a crossover cable.

I only payed $25.00 for the laplink cable. No software to load.

Plug it into the two computers and it will auto open in a split screen, drag and drop files, done.
