Potentially the longest thread in history...

Wow, I can't imagine driving a vehicle like that. How long does 0-60mph take?

12.5seconds was the quoted 0-60 when it was released, but it's getting on for 10 years old now, and i'm undoubtedly not as quick as the people that test drove it. So probably a bit more than that now. With a load of people in.. even more lol. It sounds bad, but most my friends cars have qouted 0-60s of 16+ seconds.

It's fine to be honest. It's not super quick, but if i'm the only one in the car, a near empty fuel tank (weighs less), and I slam my foot down in 2nd gear.. it's pretty pokey when it starts to rev past the 3500rpm mark :) fun enough for a first car.

As soon as I can afford a mitsubishi evo though, that thing is mine. Always wanted one.

As slow as 12.5s is I can't begin to imagine 16+ seconds. How much horsepower do those 16s cars have?

I'm thankful gas has been cheap enough in the US compared to Europe that cars here can be far more powerful than needed, midsize family cars are rapidly approaching 300hp and a at least one can do 0-60 in less than 6 seconds. What's really crazy though is a 6,000lb Toyota Sequoia SUV can do 0-60 in right at 6 seconds.

My car is a 1.4L, 75hp. Mine is actually one of the faster models. They do a 60hp version of the 1.4L as well.
Then there is the 1L 50bhp that is 0-60 in 17.8s, at the top end is the 1.6GTI which is 125bhp and 0-60 in 8.4s.

My car is the slow car in the volkswagen range to be honest, the Golf is both more popular here and more sporty with the right engines. The normal Golf model has a 157bhp 1.4L TSI engine that does 0-60 in 7.7...Then there is the Golf GTI range, the top model of that is a 2L, 221hp and 0-60 in 6.4s... Finally there is the top of the range Golf R model which is the same engine as the GTI but upped to 266hp, lowering the 0-60 to 5.5s

You see a surprising amount of Golf R's around here, I probably see one atleast 2 or 3 times a week, and I don't drive much. They're popular cars for men aged 25 to 30 unsurprisingly. They may 'only' be 266hp but remember they are much smaller cars than you have over there, it weighs just 3050lbs. That chevrolet silverado 1500 mentioned earlier is 4600lbs... and by the looks of things there are much bigger trucks out there.

We tend to drive much more fuel efficient cars here, but they are still quick. That Golf R does 35mpg for example. Drive down to London with all the rich people, and the new 2011 Mercedes CLS is a very popular car, you probably see atleast 10 if you just sit down for a coffee in the more privaledged areas. Yet even the 5liter, 400bhp model still manages 31mpg.

In that case I'm not too ashamed of my 1.8L Ford Escort. If I run 100% gas and drive the speed limit or less I can get 34mpg. I've been using 90/10 and driving over the limit lately so I am running 30-31mpg.

Thats still bad over here considering engine size. Though the escort is an old car to be fair. Modern 1.8L cars do atleast 50mpg here. Or appx 40mpg if you want US gallons.

Re: Today I have...

Today I got new tires for my Mustang and installed the new leaf springs only for the stance to be exactly the same as before. I'm really not too happy right now.
