This thought came into my mind. I'm going to leave flowers in her room, but besides that, I thought about getting about 4 different cards, and writing a similar, but slightly different, message in each one.
Then at the bottom I write in small letters pieces of a phrase... something that would be really meaningful to her about us or something of that nature. Then each section would tie into that one phrase across the 4 cards.
That way it's a very low expense out of pocket, but it still shows some creativity involved in the low cost gift.
