Not to be a 'downer' but there are viruses that can indeed attach to your computer even with a hard drive swap. These are rare and hard to get rid of! They attach to your BIOS chip. Some you can flash out with a CMOS flash or replacing the BIOS but a lot of them can just destroy computers.

ON a sweeter note, i Highly doubt that this is the case for this computer. good to hear its back in working order!
