My dad wants to install ubuntu on his lappy however I am wondering whether I can partition his hard drive in two, however doing this but not effecting his Vista installation? I wouldn't of thought this was possible but I'm hoping I'm wrong :)

Cheers

GParted can shrink the Vista Drive without affecting the system at all.

Yeah I got 10GBs for mine, thanks Mak I didn't realise Gparted could do that :)

Gparted is a awsome tool nick - should be in any geek's CD wallet on a ti uden scratch resistant.

It's done, I had problems installing at first cos I hadn't made a swap partition :p

However I'm having problems with the bluetooth and I posted a thread over in the Linux section for you to enjoy...

During the Ubuntu install you can repartition (as with many different Linux OS')

While that is right, windows puts some files at the end of the drive. Like the pagefile and some others as well.

So going thru the Ubuntu CD without first shrinking your drive down will cause you issues once you get back into Windows.
