Improving wi-fi range

Right now I have a modem provided by local telecommunication company. It is connected to my desktop. What I did was , I bought a router (Nexxt router) to get a wi-fi connection for my daughters laptop.

We are moving to different house where there is upstairs. Office will be downstairs and kids study will be upstairs. My question is how to improve wi-fi range.

I did search on internet and have no clue what to do. Can anybody tell me what to buy ?

I notice sometimes that it is better to base your WiFi router upstairs in a house rather than downstairs. This usually gives you the best connection speeds.

As for which to buy, you can't go wrong with any Belkin router. If your kids/you need a goo connection for online gaming or heavy video I;d recommend a slightly higher end router.
