Hypothetical Question about Gaming Programming Languages

Have to say I don't get the whole GnuPG, and key swapping parties, etc. It might eventually click and I have a vague sense for what it is all about, but it is not clear.

I guess once I have code that I want to make available as open-source, it will become significant that I've created a GnuPG account / joined their mailing list and I'll need to create a personal key at that time.

PGP is just an encryption method basically.
