im replaying half life 2 on a new pc with
amd phenom II x6 1100t at 3.7ghzs
amd hd 6970 2gb gpu
8 gigs ram
all settings on max at 1920x1080 except AA which is at 4x. my question is: is that not good enough to crank up to 8x AA? because when i do im getting fps drops from 60(vsync on) to around 40 and down to 25 whenever theres explosions and stuff happening. also on 4x AA when theres explosions or steam or crossbow zooming im getting drops down to 30-40 which causes noticable lag. any other game i can max out at 1080p and get no lag whatsoever, and were talking 2011 games here not 2004.
has anyone else experienced this with hl2? or is my gpu not powerful enough to handle it maxed out? i have all the latest drivers and dx11 installed. i did a lot of googling but couldn't find much on the problem, which is why i came here for help. if anyone has any suggestions on what may be causing this and if a fix is possible please let me know, and thanks!
