I recently (as in today) bought a CAT5e Ethernet cord to connect to my campus wide LAN connection. However, I can't get on the internet. I can use my wireless perfectly fine, and the computer recognizes the cable is plugged in. It even says it has internet access, yet when I type in a wed address I get the message that the DNS look up failed (using google chrome) I've tried using firefox to see if it chrome was the problem, but I still had the same issue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Tech-Forums achima!!!

Try this:
If you're running Windos Vista or 7 open Network & Sharing Center > Change adapter settings > Right click on Local Area Connection > Properties > Internet Protocol Version 4 > and click on the radio button that says "Obtain DNS server address automatically" or you can enter 8.8.8.8 on the preferred and 8.8.4.4 on the alternate DNS server.

If you're running XP go to the Control Panel and click on the Network Connections, then the steps will be the same for Vista or 7.

Hope this works. Please let us know.
