Can't connect in Gears

Well me and my friend are trying to play gears of war together, but neither of us can join the others party. We also can't do private voice chats. Im pretty sure my router is causing the problem, because it often wont connect to people in other games as well. What do i need to change on my router in order to make it more friendly with my friend? This is really annoying, because the only way we can play is by joining someone else's party. Also, i can't try any other games with him, since gears is all he has.
Oh and i have a motorola WR850G router, if that helps.

The following ports must be available for xbox 360 live to work:

UDP 88
UDP 3074
TCP 3074

First off id port forward UDP 3074 and TCP 3074. In your router Id enable UPnP if its there too. If that all fails disable the router firewall and see if thats causing the problem.
