Ok I bought a copy of Windows xp professional NEW never been opened online and I got it today and the disc is scratched to **** on both sides! Needless to say that ****es me off but is there a way to finish installation? possibly try to burn the disc with nero and try a fresh one? It has finished copying all files and then after restart it has a disc read error and wont continue but asks to restart. Even after a clearing of the cmos I cant get off that screen back to my vista on another partition. Any ideas? anywhere you can download xp professional and then use my own key?

question.... i will be burning using nero... if I have a zip file.. I unzip it and burn that file correct?

No, i don't believe that will work. I understand your theory, but it is flawed (saying that with love). See, if the data on the CD is unreadable, why would nero be able to read it and the OS not? If you burn the CD you are going to run into the same problem, when it hits that portion of the CD the data will be unreadable. And i bet Nero will do a data check and see that the area is scratched anyways.

If this is new RETURN IT. If you are impatient and have other routes to go, then borrow a CD of the same version from a friend and just use your purchased CD key. My vote would if this is a legit CD (which i have a feeling it isn't) then it needs to be returned for a new one.

Hello,

Yes. Unzip it with WinRar or WinZip and then you should have a ISO. From there you can burn it with many different apps. Nero is one. ImgBurn is another.

Cheers,

yea I am debating the authenticity of it as well... I have already emailed the seller and am waiting for a response to see what the business wants to do...just really gets on my nerves lol im still wondering if the key is going to work when I get this going as well

Question, I was finally able to boot into vista and on my partition for xp it shows the windows files... will I be able to follow the xp without a disk stickie and reinstall like a backup or resource disk? i found the I398 file i believe its called but i really couldnt follow the directions on the video here on the forums due to no sound for some reason.
