Something I have started installing and doing overall on all my OS's is installing a VPN Open Frame Work. I dont install the PIA App crap but instead use the OpenVPN and Network Manager Software suite built in too nix.
I also disable all network connections and up on booting the system \ s I will activate my Ethernet connection if and when necessary if I want to go on line. Just another security feature as in disabling the network interface.
Windows 8.1 Pro x64 + Classic Shell (Windows 10 once drivers roll out and Oculus support)
Chrome - Adblock - PDF Viewer
Daemon Tools (I still use this by pure habit)
Adobe CS6 Suite
Vegas Pro 12
Logitech Gaming Software
Go to Services and disable a ton
A lot of things from my previous list still exist but I've limited a lot of installs by adding a 512GB SSD and leave certain things installed. Steam is one good example, as is FRAPS (which I don't normally use). UltraISO, Handbrake, and the like I move over to my server to free up work time on my main rig and because I can remote into it.
Microsoft security essentials
I have my printer software from Epson
I do model railroading so i have Scarm installed.
Windows Media Player.
I think thats about all. the rest is ion the browser. Woops, my Browser is the new edge Chromium. Not to bad!
Open office (may switch to Libre but open office is more compact)
Speccy (never know when you might need to know some specs on the fly )
Rufus (you need both etcher for linux and rufus for windows (if you use rufus to write linux usb's then it makes you download a million add-ons))
RCT 2 (Older games you bought the CD and you can install on as many computers as you want, i even just have a ISO i made on a USB)
I might remember some more you'll notice almost all of them are freeware-i have a whole stick of freeware. apps for windows..
