comparison time: vlans are like countries that need a to speak with the president (router) before they can communicate with other countries.

A VLAN is = to a "country" = a subnet = a broadcast domain

A country is limited to speaking with its internal states (switchports) unless it has a president (router) to send the message to another country. This is both secure way to communicate and it keeps the different countries from needlessly bickering with each other (limits broadcasts)

Funny how the real world kind of operates the same way.. :big_smile:
