testing anti viruses

hello all,

I was thinking of testing a number of AV products, is there anyway to get dummy viruses that mimic real ones? id need 50 or 100 of these.

Yes i know and it worked but that's only one, not ideal if you want to do a test for common and obscure viruses and trojans. I was hoping for something which is like having mydoom virus on my pc but without the effects etc, just to test so dummy files of real viruses that would appear in an anti virus scan but would be dormant.

www.hackpalace.com has archives of compiled virues. to be honest i haven't tested if they are true virues however, i know they will show up in an AV scan.

ok lol I dont want my pc to die with real viruses though i`ll look into it.

well, if i were doing the same experiments i would be running these tests within a virtual machine just to be safe.

Get EICAR's test virus, completely harmless, but your AV should treat it as the really thing. If you AV doesn't pick this up, its completely useless.
