I currently am running what was originaly a Dell Dimension 8100 with Pentium 4 1.3 ghz and 512mb of RDRam pc800-45 (4x128). I have updated several components over the years but it is obviously outdated. Knowing that I have been buying componenets for a new system as funds allow. You should know that I play several online games, use photoshop, 3D studio Max, and autocad regularly and have been just dealing with the lack of performance. I am handicapped and am forced to reside in bed approximatly 22 hours per day so my set up is a crucial part of life. Reliability is very imortant factor as any thing that goes wrong requires a family member or friend to head to the local comp store or order parts online. This morning my system took what is I believe it's last breath. Christmas has made funds very tight but spending cash on the Dell is a waste in my opinion. I waited to buy my motherboard and cpu last so they would be as current as possible when I bought them but now I have to scramble to finish the new box. My dilema is this I have 4x128 blocks of RDRam from my Dell and believe from all of read that it limits my choices for motherboard/cpu combination considerably. I know that I could probably reuse my motherboard (assuming that is not the source of the collapse this morning) but my new hard drives have S-ata 300 hookups not supported by my board and the adapter card is probably close to the board price anyway. I am looking for possible ways to get a mobo and cpu for the rdram or mobo/cpu/ddram and if I should just switch to DDram for more choices? Is AMD a serious option? I know nothing other then what I have read and do they even support RDRam (I don't think so)? Because of the holiday finances I must try to do this for as close to $300.00 as possible. I realize this might not be possible but I need to try because It will be about 90 days until money opens up. I will probably upgrade them later if need be but I certainly don't need "state of the art" to get by until then.
