Hiya Guys

I was looking for any help regarding using DYN DNS.com and port forwarding with a NETGEAR DG834PN to my camera system Sumvision H.264.

I have been trying to follow online tutorials but all are different with the the types of routers and none fit the profile well for NETGEAR DG834PN.

Technically i want to use DYN DNS which i have signed up for to access my CCTV cameras from over the internet.

any help will be appreciated and i have used portforward.com and didnt find it helpful .

Thanks
Rachel

Here's the section you need in the manual for your modem/router for port forwarding:

http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/DG834PN/dg834pn_ref_manual_11Nov05.pdf#G6.47988

and configuring dynamic dns:

http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/DG834PN/dg834pn_ref_manual_11Nov05.pdf#G8.48069

Combined with the instructions for your camera system, that should be everything that you need. The online tutorials all deal with the same concepts but this will be the proper documentation for your particular hardware.

Post back here if you run into any problems.

Thank You! I used each of these user guide but what is happening now is when i test to see if it works once i followed all steps it just opens up my router and don't show my camera as if it doesn't follow through with the port-forwarding.

Any ideas why this may be happening?

sorry for the late reply been wanting to try fix it without having to bother you again.

Thanks
Rachel

Are you saying that when you try to access the camera over the internet, it's going to your router setup page instead?

If that's the case, have you appended the port number to the end of the ip address? For example, if your ip is 1.2.3.4 and your camera is on port 9000, then 1.2.3.4:9000 is what you would be putting into your address bar. If that's not the case, then please describe in detail what is happening.

What operating system are you using? If it's Windows, you might have to create an exception in Windows Firewall for your camera if you have not yet done so.

Also, you want to disable remote administration of your router unless you specifically want to keep it - no need in exposing your router controls to the internet unless you really have to.

Yeah it goes to the router setup page. But I'm using dyndns.com so for example would I put example.dyndns.org:1256 because I don't have a static IP address so I use that so it auto updates my IP address.

Thanks for the fast reply

Yes, you can just add the port to the domain name. If that still doesn't work then try using your number ip address at the time (i.e. 4.2.2.2:9000) just to see if it is getting through at all. If that works then it's an issue with dynamic dns. If you are still unable to connect to the camera then there's probably something wrong with the port forwarding. Remember to select TCP or UDP in addition to entering the port number and to save the changes.
