photshop/fireworks

i'll try the rasterize thing. thank you :) i really don't know that much about fireworks and photoshop i haven't used them in about 3 years lol. i'ts not that i need to be able to contrast a colour on a background, i was just wondering if i can get text to contrast with a progressively changing background like say a gradient.

edit: or text over a photo
 
I wonder if you could use blending options... or... make that layer 'hue'

not sure... I'll get back to you on that...
 
the only thing I could think of right off... was to make the text... rasterize it, then use the magic wand selection tool to select the empty area around the text (make sure continuous is off)... then select > inverse selection, then with that selection move to your picture layer and copy.. then past that and invert it...

you should be able to use blending effects such as a drop shadow or outer glow to make it stand out more...
