MSConfig Entries Screw-Up

Next step is to open MSCONFIG. Go to start, run, type Msconfig, press ok, go to the startup tab, then click disable all. Now re-check your antivirus, firewall or any other program that you absolutely need to be started up each and every time windows is restarted. Now rechecking these entries right now will result in deleted entries of your programs in the next step. Then you will need to reinstall that program. Then click apply, ok, but don¡¦t reboot yet. NOTE: when you reboot, you will see the System Configuration Utility dialog box appear. Just put a checkmark in the box and press ok. NOTE: If you can not open MSCONFIG, TASK MANAGER OR REGEDIT, just move to the next step or download it to your desktop below and then perform the task:

Download MSCONFIG, REGEDIT, and TASK MANAGER to your desktop


Next run Msconfig Cleanup after you unchecked the items you were told to uncheck and recheck, click "Select All", then click "Clean up Selected", then click "Quit". Make sure your antivirus and firewall are not checked. If you delete your antivirus and firewall entries, you will need to reinstall them so be sure to check them and don¡¦t reboot.

I was doing this step WarezMonster, and I did everything right UNTIL the last step, I rebooted after I quit the Cleanup program. Then I went back into MSConfig Startup and nothing was there. so I went to the General Tab and Selected Normal Startup and rebooted again. It didn't change anything.. I noticed all of my startup programs aren't in the taskbar (obviously because of what I did).. And I can't connect to my wireless interent connection anymore. Says it can't renew the IP address. Even though I was just on it before I did this Cleanup program


Does anyone know what I did wrong, and how I can fix it. Is it a matter of just adding some of the processes back to the StartUp tab?? I wish I knew which one would make the internet connect again.... Thanks.


UPDATE: I just had it idling there, and a window popped up saying i Must restart for system changed to take effect.. So I did that and restarted... Nothing changed.
 
Sounds like you removed entries that you needed and that you have a program taking care of your wireless instead on XP. You may need to reinstall your wireless card.

OK I went into Services and enabled DHCP Client and Wireless One Automatic Config and a couple other services that I need..

It will connect now.. Wireless is connected and working.. I refreshed it and it did the cache/dns/etc. refreshing without a prob.

But something still is wrong.. I start up AIM/MSN and it won't connect.

I start up IE and it just says "Connecting to site xxx.xx.xxx.xxx"

When I stop and try to refresh the page, it just says "Waiting for <website>"

Both of these last forever and no progress is never made..

Any ideas?

There was one.. Vstmon. As I reopened more programs, they re-added themselves..

I have solved the problem anyways. It turns out ZoneAlarm was running, but I could not see it in the taskbar or taskmanager.. But when I opened it, it appeared.. And I could see that it was blocking my internet... So I allowed it and now it works... lol.

I do still have that Vundo trojan though. Even though both of those removal programs were run. I will post a HiJackThis log..
