My first unlock was the Medic scoped rifle because I thought it'd be cool to have the option of a scoped weapon instead of the generic assault rifles the Medics normally have. I was somewhat disappointed with this weapon. It seemed very inaccurate unless I was on single-shot and even then it wasn't perfect.
My second unlock was the Barrett because I thought it would make sniping a lot more exciting. Really, it wasn't worth it. The feeling of power lasted about a day. I still never got a "headshot through helicopter glass" that I so longed for.
Then I found the DAO-12. Wow. I had heard it was effective, but it was truly a beast once I wielded it. It's got a 12-shot magazine and every pellet damages heavily. If you miss, you can fire three more shots off very, very quickly, and this will kill most targets at close or even medium range. The only downside is that reloading takes VERY long and I don't know how to end it prematurely without switching to the pistol.
