Anti virus boot cd

So I have a knoppix 5.1 cd that is supposed to be able to be used for anti virus. I have no idea how to get it to work though.

My friend has a virus I haven't looked at his comp but it sounds serious. Is there a free boot cd I can get that will scan his hard drive?

Maybe you could boot into safemode? I would think itd be easier to do scans with an infected system that way.

P.S. If you dunno how, run msconfig, go to the BOOT.INI tab and select SAFEBOOT. Then restart and pop it in and scan. Id also recommend Avast! and do a thorough scan.
