Trying to use WAP instead of wireless card or USB.

and, probably the last point: Downloading from site: res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\hdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm. Keeps appearing at the bottom of IE =(

Ok, forget the disc.... do the setup manually, as I have layed out for you....

Have you pushed the reset button on the AP to get the config back to factory defaults? Still hung up on this one... you won't get access to it if the password has changed and you don't know it, UNLESS it is reset to factory defaults.... Can't really proceed until this is done.

I did reset it, that's how the IP got that way. But the password still isn't accepted =(. I did see something that said "You have to change the password to access the web setup", but when I changed it, neither admin or my new password worked.

I think the setup on the internet and the one that comes with the disc are similar, as I managed to get the packets coming both in and out when I made the channels and SSID the same, as well as being able to do everything else you said. The problems were:

1. I still couldn't connect to websites.
2. I still couldn't enter the WAP config.

I also noticed that when I tried to update my AVG, it said "could not ... name". I couldn't remember exactly what it said, but I'm almost certain it concerned DNS.

Ok..... with the AP sending & receiving packets, go to the laptop, and see if you can ping the following:

Access point ( 10.0.0.3)
Wireless router (with the LAN IP.... 10.0.0.2)
PC (whatever the IP is...)

To do that, go START > RUN > type 'CMD' & hit enter....
Then type ping IP

Example:
Ping 10.0.0.2

Then, try the same from the wired PC, see if it can ping the router, AP & laptop.

.2. and .4. worked on my computer ( I guess they're the router and computer IPs)

.3. worked on my laptop (WAP or laptop IP)

LAN Status is at 110 packets sent and 191 received though on my laptop.

I've got nothing at the moment on my "Network" part of the Windows Task Manager.

I have to go now though.

Ok, obviously, the AP is not associating with the wireless router yet... I would contact Linksys to see if you can get the issue with the password on the AP resolved... not much we can do until then.

Okay, turns out username was blank, and password was admin. I switched the band to the same as the Router, but I still can't connect.

My laptop settings are now:

Liezl F. (10104): Okay, please assign 192.168.1.5 to the PC.
Liezl F. (10104): 255.255.255.0 for the subnet mask
Liezl F. (10104): 192.168.1.1 for the default gateway.
Kieran: Okay
Liezl F. (10104): Then, 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 for the DNS servers.

SSID: CableWireless

Channel: 10.

Thats not going to work, unless you changed the IP scheme in your network.....

You have to make sure that all of the devices are in the same subnet, but using different IP addresses.....

If you use 192.168.1.0 network with 255.255.255.0 subnet masks, then only the LAST number in the IP address should be different between the devices....
EX:

192.168.1.1
192.168.1.2
192.168.1.3
192.168.1.4
192.168.1.5
up to
192.168.1.254

are all in the same subnet, with 255.255.255.0 mask...

Also, you should meniton to Linksys that their user manual clearly states that it is admin/admin... they should have that fixed.

If you are going to use a 192.168.1.X network scheme, then here is what I suggest.....

Set the following:
Router
  • IP: 192.168.1.33
  • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.240
  • DHCP Pool range: 192.168.1.35 - 192.168.1.46

Access Point
  • IP Address: 192.168.1.34
  • 255.255.255.240
  • Default Gateway: 192.168.1.33

Then, have the hosts (PC's & laptops) set for DHCP, and they will automatically aquire address between 192.168.1.35 - 192.168.1.46.

The DHCP pool will give you a total of 12 useable addresses for hosts in the network... this should be more than good, unless you plan on having more than 12 hosts connected at one time.
