So I just ordered a new CPU for my PC to upgrade it for some games coming out soon. After I placed the order I saw an ad for Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste and it got me to thinking, do I need thermal paste for my new CPU? I have a liquid cooling system in my PC already and i was wondering if I needed or didn't need the paste for it.

Simple answer is yes.... Thermal compunds fill in microscopic gaps in the surface of your processor and heatsink/waterblock and help the transfer of heat from one to another. If you do not use thermal compound the microscopic gaps will hold air which will act like a thermal insulator.
While you may need some thermal paste as advised, you should most definitely not buy Arctic Silver 5.
