Why is there a USB Drive sticking out of this Wall?

Across New York, there are USB drives embedded in walls, buildings and curbs. The idea is to create an anonymous, offline file-sharing network in public space. The drives are completely public and anyone can plug in to drop and download files.

Is this true ? Anyone in New York can verify lol? This looks like a disaster waiting though...totally sure it's riddled with viruses and those mean stuff .

Either it's some computer technician putting those in the wall to signify tecnology, or yes you could be riggjt public domain upload and download file sharing.

The only thing that gets me, is if you need to file share something and it's for free, bring your butt inside from out of the cold, rain or snow and do it....
I just hope the usb's are somewhere insight where somebody might find something not right or have a camera pointed at them, just in case we do have another terrorist death threat in the US again.

According to the article...and well the source the article is from, it seems that it's a project going on. It stated that there are 5 of those around the city and they gave pics to them. Not sure who would use them though.
