when minimizing a window it closes

I don,t understand what is going on here, when I have a window open and if I click the minimize box the window does not minimize to the tool bar, it goes away. but if I Ctrl Alt delete, every application that I had minimized is shown in the box, as if it is still running, help on striaghtening this out would be great,

Sounds like a virus but even microsoft has admitted to ME being a bad mistake and is a virus in itself, yea I agree time to upgrade
