Using Kyocera Echo WiFi on old PC?

Hi, I am trying to get internet an old(ish) Dell Dimension E310 that doesn't have a WiFi card. Everyone in my house uses laptops, so ethernet is out of the question, and I don't want to pay for a Wi-Fi dongle if there could be another method. I have a Kyocera Echo phone with Android Gingerbread though, and I noticed it had a tethering mode, but when I try using the tethering mode with the phone plugged into the PC via USB, the phone says there's no service available in my house (which is normal, as it uses Sprint,) and it says this even if I am connected to WiFi with the phone. Is there any other way to use my phone as a USB wireless dongle?

You might want to try something like FoxFi. I know it has USB tethering, but I'm not 100% sure it can tether through wifi instead of cellular
