Unencrypted internet connection

I am at college and have a wireless connection. The problem is that it is unsecured. Is there a program that will allow me to encrypt the data being sent in and out?

usually this is done using your router. enable WEP or WPA and set a net key/password. you will need to configure you WLAN adapter aswell to compensate for this.

No, configuration is done from the router. Since you are in college, the network or device doesn't belong to you. It is left open and unsecure for a reason for the public or students with less administrative work.

Consider installing a good firewall, and disable NetBIOS. You don't want to be running NetBIOS on a public WLAN.

oh i neevr read that propperly i didnt see it was a open WLAN fro a college, in that case you cant and shouldnt try, and you might want to disable file sharing.
