how bout trying to uninstall and delete the mozilla firefox folder then install.

i did this and worked fine.

then make sure you install all your plugins again.

Got me stumped. I thought maybe a proxy setting, but then you couldn't access the internet.

Something is wrong somewhere on your computer. If I could sit down and work on it, I could find it. But like this...?
