Yes. They're called Live CD's.

Knoppix, PHLAK, and Slax are three Live CD distro's that come immediately to my mind.

Ubuntu has one as well if you want a gnome based desktop.

Did you make sure to burn it as a bootable image?

If you did, then you'll probably have to download a program that checks the MD5SUM of the image, and then compare that to what the distro provided.

Yeah,

you will have to burn it as an image, What burning program are you using? You will have to select the 'burn image to CD' option when the Browse window comes up in the file type select 'all files' select the directory which the file is in, open it and hit the Burn button on your software and it should do it for you

Like jakec said, all you need to get an original copy of Ubuntu Live is go to the site and enter your information. You will receive it absolutley free...as in no shipping charges either

ok i burned it as a image now when i have the disk in it does not boot. the moniter goes on stand by. also now the moniter acually displays images when windows is fully loaded. i dont see and bois screen.
