editing DVDs

I have copied my old video home movies to DVD. I would like to transfer them to my PC and do some simple editing i.e. subtitles etc. What is the best and cheapest software to do this?

How to edit DVD,DVD-VR, DVD+VR / How to convert DVDs back to MPG for reauthor or editing

If you have authored a DVD and you want to reedit or reauthor it without reconverting it again then just "convert" the DVD VOBs back to a MPG file or MPEG2, AC3, MPA, WAV elemantary streams(called demultiplexing) for easier editing and authoring. Some tools can also import DVD VOB files directly without converting to MPG files.
