well i guess its time to say good bye to the old 1.1ghz t-bird system
i'm gonna order these parts in a few weeks once i sell out my current system but just wanted to check here and see if all is good and i am set to go.. I would go with socket 939, but its a bit too new and a bit too expensive. i am on a very limited budget here (infact i was hopely to be able to make it $80 cheaper.), but here it goes (stuff that is underlined is where i am really lost)
CPU Athlon 64 3000+ RETAIL w/ HSF $145
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...-103-486&depa=1
Motherboard AOpen "AK86-L" K8T800 Chipset Motherboard $70
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...-137-042&depa=0
Hard Drive Seagate SATA 7,200RPM 8mb buffer $70
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewprodu...-148-019&DEPA=1
RAM 2X Kingmax pc3200 184-pin 512mb $128
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...-156-006&depa=0
CD-RW Lite-on 52X32X52 CD-RW Drive $21
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...-106-197&depa=1
Case AIDMAX Black 10-bay Case with 420W Power Supply $45
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...-156-135&depa=1
Artic Silver 5 .. well artic silver 5.. $7
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...-100-007&depa=1
TOTAL: $486 + S/H
I will be keeping my 128mb 9600xt (even though it will bottleneck it ) and my CD-ROM/Floppy.
ok here are my main questions. I was planning to buy an OEM chip and third party HSF but thats only 90 days warrenty and HSFs are more expensive then i thought. I won't be overclocking AT ALL, and was wondering if a stock HSF w/ AS5 will keep me cool. i am a tempurature worry-wart
Now the SATA HD... whats SATA?? this is only my second build so i don't know that much. is it compatible with my motherboard? the number 1 issue with my HD and computer all together is stability and durbilty. will SATA meet my needs here?
And the PSU. i am guessing that 420W is enough to power all that and a 9600xt, but just want to make sure.
other then that, does all look good?? any suggestions or am i set to go?? also i heard somewhere, that i should NOT use artic silver 5 and the termal pad is better and plenty (i perfer not to use AS5 unless totally necessary). true o' false?
