Definatly.

I got a friend who happens to have media contacts. I might see what I can do there. Problem is that it might be 2 weeks before i see him next.

Releaselog | RLSLOG.net Countrywide inet filters launched in Australia
WEB users have slammed a Federal government plan to filter Net content, with a couriermail.com.au poll showing major opposition to the soon-to-be-trialled proposal. Internet service providers will test a blacklist of about 1000 illegal websites for the Rudd Government's bid to protect Australians from viewing obscene material. Within days, Communications Minister Stephen Conroy will ask internet service providers such as BigPond and iiNet to participate in a live pilot trial to test internet filters.

The blacklists would probably apply to “real depictions of actual sexual activity:, child pornography, bestiality, material containing excessive violence or sexual violence, detailed instruction in crime, violence or drug use and material which advocated the commission of a terrorist act. But the filtering plan has infuriated net users, because it could slow internet speeds by 30 per cent even though it will do little to block illegal content. That's the warning from technical experts, who also say the plan could expose users' financial details during online banking sessions and see popular websites including Facebook and YouTube banned.

Turns out that there are some people that are organising protest. Unfortunalty, there methods of getting information out to people needs improvement.

It was on saturday November 1st. Like OCAU only found out about it abut 12 hours before it started.
I would of loved to have been there, but all ready was booked out for that day aways.

Not sure on numbers at this stage

POSTED :- 30th October 2008, 11:52 PM
The protests have been organised.

Where: Parliament House in the following cities-
SYDNEY (Macquarie Street)
MELBOURNE (Spring and Bourke streets)
ADELAIDE
PERTH
BRISBANE (corner of Alice and George streets, outside QUT)
DARWIN
CANBERRA
HOBART (15 Murray St)

When: Midday, November 1st 2008.

Why: To show the government that Australian citizens oppose any form of Internet censorship along with the repercussions it brings such as slowing downloads, inadvertently blocking legitimate content and luring parents into a false sense of security.

We do not want Australia implementing any potentially totalitarian policies such as this.

What to bring: Posters, megaphones, flags, your water bottles and common sense.

Remember, this is a peaceful protest. Violence or abuse of any kind will not be tolerated.

Note: I have not organised this event; I am simply attending, and thought that some of you may wish to attend also to show your support.

UPDATE: I'm not sure who the organiser is - but the link to the event details is on Facebook - Login | Facebook

Thanks for the advance notice.

On November the 1st, there will be protests across Australia,
12pm NOON, at your Capital City's Parliament House.
Not Chanology related, do NOT bring V masks.
That going to make thing rather interesting for the local anon crowds. Especially considering that the CoS has been stepping up the fightback with Chanology.

Personally my feeling towards anon on this issue is the less obvious anons down at these protests, the better. Last think we need is some one showing up with a PedoBear Approves T-Shirt.

What they need to do is to get cars on a major road in each lane, driving at the same speed, around 20kmh to let people know just how slowed down the proposal would make the internet. Particularly all roads from parliament house

I am in for that one!!!!!!! When do we do that?

Yeah I ended up going to the Sydney one.

Was fun.

Ended up being more a public awareness program than a protest.

A small group gathered at State Parliament, but there wasn't enough foot traffic so we ended up marching to Town Hall. Had a large banner, megaphone and a boombox pelting out any and every internet related song. Was pretty funny marching through Martin Place to the tune of Rick Astley, etc. and we got a good ratio of smiles to wtf looks.

We ended up distributing around 4000 pamplets to the general public, and had quite a few people talking through the issue with us. I didn't see anyone just dump the pamphlets either. Pretty much everyone read it or stopped to read it.

I'd chalk it up as a success, and was a fun few hours also.

I'll keep my ear to the ground and try to give OCAU advanced warning on the next one. Could definitely use more numbers.

Well I took a few people I know to it and there was..... NO ONE THERE!!! We stood around for a while waiting for people to turn up and after about half an hour we left... The whole problem with this ******n filter is that no one knows about it, the media isn't reporting on it and no one seems to care because of it.

2 problems.
1. The lack of notice on the issue. Like no one knew about it. By the time people start putting up date and times, people all ready had plans. Like I was stuck working, plus I had my tattoo to get finished.
2. right in the middle of uni and high school exam time.

Really, there is going to no sence in doing any thing until early decmember. And even there, people are mostly to being doing christmas things.
Seriously, it some thing that is going to be best left for Late January / Early Feb 2009.

The live pilot is going ahead before the end of the year.

ISP Content Filtering Live Pilot | Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy
Internet Service Provider (ISP) Content Filtering 'Live' Pilot

In May 2008 the Australian Government committed $125.8 million over four years to support a comprehensive range of cyber-safety measures, including law enforcement, education and an informed and considered approach to ISP level filtering.

The Government intends to take an evidence-based approach to content filtering at the ISP level and is committed to working closely with industry to address any concerns, including costs and impacts on internet speeds.

These concerns will be carefully considered during a 'live' pilot of ISP filtering which will test a range of content filtering solutions in a real world environment, with the cooperation of ISPs (including mobile telephone operators) and their customers. The outcomes of the pilot will inform the Government's decision making on the ISP filtering framework.

Why should ISPs participate?
The participation of industry is crucial to providing evidence on the real world impacts for ISP content filtering, including on ISPs and their customers.

Participation in the pilot provides ISPs with an invaluable opportunity to inform the Government's approach to ISP filtering.

The 'live' pilot
Expressions of Interest are now being called from ISPs interested in participating in this 'live' pilot. Participation is restricted to those ISPs that provide a service to persons resident in Australia.

The pilot is expected to commence before the end of the year, although ISPs will be able to start later (but preferably before 24 December 2008).

Ideally, ISPs will participate in the pilot for a minimum of 6 weeks. ISPs that commence earlier will have the discretion to participate in the pilot until its conclusion

Applications
ISPs are encouraged to read the Expression of Interest documents fully before completing an application—the following documents can be downloaded directly from this page.
