runnning a graphics card on under compatible motherbard

i am a com noob so i was wondering...

i want to buy a 8x agp graphics card however my motherboard only supports 4x agp...
will my graphics card still be able to run properly?
will i be able to run it at all?
i have read something to do with the voltage of my motherbard..
what is this all about?

some 8x apg cards are backwards compatible but it would say on the box wiether it will work in a 4x agp slot or not.:)
 
thx alot guys for ure help... ill go check it out.. ill be geetin a radeon 9600... its sld work rite? my motherboard is a intel 82845 broookdale host-hub interface bridge.. wat does "broookdale host-hub interface bridge" mean?


Will a radeon 9600 work on it? thx again for ure help:)
