I Hate having a high ping.....i really, really do. I play All Battlefield games constantly and sometimes i have an ok ping but most times my ping is over 100 but usually lower than 250. I really hate when people (****heads) join the server i am on and tell people to Kick me because i have a high ping, even though i`ve been playing on the server the past hour (****head shows up and has been on the server for a minute and say's "Kick MADWAD for high ping" and then i'm gone). I realize i slow/lag the server but what can i do? I know a cable internet connection is not the best but it's all i can afford. Any ideas on how i can lower my ping?
Thanks

p.s - does where i live have something to do with my ping?

screwed it up ran it twice thinking i didnt do it correctly the first time, then got the "test per limit" tried to go back and no go, now it says i have to wait a month.thanks for the help anyways :(

Thanks GameGuru,
Here are the results, i also tried your other link you mentioned and it worked for me today.

Bandwidth calculation is measured against that of CNET's Internet Services. Bandwidth may be higher or lower depending on Internet congestion. Calculated tests do not reflect server reliability and speed.

I don't see an upload speed in there? Am I blind? Ping is really a determinate of two things: The speed of your connection and the distance you are from the server/host. Ping can be effected by low system resources as well. You may want to check and see what you have running.

One other thing, when you organize the list of servers by lowest ping to highest, the lowest ping should be the quickest run for your computer to a host. If it is above 100, then you might want to call the cable/broadband company and have them check for packet loss...

Packet loss? and i'm guessing that has something to do with the speed of my connection? And do people commonly phone their cable/internet provider and ask if they have packet loss? Or are the people at the Cable/internet company going to think i'm crazy? Thanks for the help

by the way my system specs (or what i know of)
Pentium 4 2.4 GHz
512 mb ram/ DDR memory
P4Pe asus mother board
6600gt geforce xfx
internet connection : cable

Check your game tweaks, then check the router that you're connecting through to the game server.

One server I used to play TFC on a lot, they had two routers. One for normal, that I got less than 30 pings on. However, when they dropped that router to do maintenance and switched to the other, my pings went up to the 300's and beyond. The server was still the same distance.

If your connection is up to snuff, and your game is patched and tweaked correctly, the only two things left are either A: check the router, or B: find another server.

Yea dude,

You can try direct connecting to the IP, or you may just be far as hell away from the guy.
