Your 6x9 of choice.

I think they're auto-locked after 60 or 90 days or something.
I just bought the cheapest speakers I could find... All I listen to is talk radio.

I personally have a Pioneer setup, with a single 10" Rockford Fosgate P1 sub. 2, 6x9 in the rear, (set to mid/high range) 2 5" round in the front doors. (default setting) and 2 tweats on each side of the dash. I've also got a Pioneer head unit that has a USB slot, so I don't have to mess around with playlists, cd's, etc... I just drop the music onto a thumb drive and away I go. I also only have a 200W amp driving the SUB and rear speakers. I like my music inside the car. :p

Well, if your wanting to go aftermarket, don't get wally world speakers, though they are OK, just don't expect much. If you get aftermarket you should also invest in a proper amplifier to power them. A typical radio outputs 50w*4 MAX, usually 20w RMS, and most aftermarket speakers that are of good quality are 75w RMS. I have a set of Clarion SRQ6933R in the back with a pair of SRQ1722S up front. Speakers alone costed me a good $400 though, but they are very nice speakers with great highs and good mids, they are being pushed with a Clarion XC6410.

In the end, just amps/speakers cost nearly $1000 for a half decent setup. But if your looking for cheap, I personally enjoyed the Pioneers when I was younger, just remember, 6x9s and front speakers are meant for highs and high-mids, nothing low. Once you start pumping lows and lower mids through them, your going to blow them.

Oh, and umm... PLEASE stay away from ANYTHING that says SONY, walmart version or legit dealer version, SONY is nothing but over-rated (literally) trash, even the wally-world junk ends up being of better quality half the time.

I also hear Kicker makes some pretty decent 6x9s, just gotta remember, don't let the head unit do all the pushing, get a proper amp for any aftermarket speaker added to the system.

Just bought all that this year too as I am starting to get back into some local competitions for SQL.

Lol I know all about speakers and quality. Musical equipment has been part of me all my life. That is why I asked what people prefer for 6x9s. I'm probably going to wind up with JBL's. Not too powerful but still 3 way. I'm not doing a sub for a while.

I think Ford used JBL in their premium radio systems. I know my mothers 97 Lincoln with the higher end stock radio has JBL amps/radio/speakers and even a sub installed from the factory o.0 Very good sounding system. Even if you don't go with a sub, you must have an amp on any aftermarket speaker, otherwise your just going to have distortion or burn something up. That is, unless you actually get really low powered after-markets.

I know you knew home audio and PA systems, but, your in a very different ballpark when it comes to car audio, and I have spoke to quiet a few home audio freaks and they don't understand much of anything about car audio aside from what some 16 year old at the counter says when selling them a $400 pair of 6 1/2s which I had hoped no one in their right mind would ever, ever do.

What are you doing about fronts? If I am not mistaken, ford has some funky front speakers in the doors. Just assuming you bought a new mustang.

Yea I have a 2000. The fronts are Pioneers already as is the rear. The rears are easy to replace and no I'm not getting an amp right now. I have to replace my clutch, front suspension, and get 2 new rear tires so amps and such are not a priority. Those JBLs are on sale so figured I might get some.

Audio is audio for me. My dad had a nice system in his 67 till rain water damaged it. Growing up he taught me all about audio as a whole. That is why I told my friend he is going to blow his sub, and he did. When everybody else told him he would be fine. Not my problem though.

I upgraded my '95 Escort's sound system about a year ago. Got a new head unit (Pioneer DH-3300UB), new front speakers (6" Pioneers) and new rear speakers (5x7" Sony XPLOD) both from walmart. I didn't want a super high end setup just something better than stock and that's what I ended up with which is A LOT better than what was originally in there. I wish that my rear speakers weren't 5x7 though, I ended up getting stuck with Sony XPLOD because they were the only speakers available at that size. I may buy new speakers for it later but what I have now isn't too bad.

I have the DH-4000UB (least I'm pretty sure that's the model). I don't know exactly what model but the rear are Pioneer. After fiddling with more settings on my headunit it appears the rear speakers are actually pretty decent. I also discovered that the previous owner cut the USB cable in the back so I'm stuck wasting phone battery to play music :|

I just wish the whole unit wasn't so dependent on that stupid toggle wheel. Previous owner wasn't very nice to it so it doesn't work very well.
