Wireles Router Loses Connection

I set up a wireless router connection to my laptop but the signal keeps going when i plug out the cable which is directly connected to the modem. Any ideas?

this is how it shold be

Modem > Router > Wireless Connection to PC

u dont need to keep ur modem connected to ur pc while using wireless it should be plugged into the Router

You said that the wireless signal 'keeps going' after the cable is [unplugged], were you expecting the wireless signal to drop?
