why exactly does windows performance degrade overtime with even normal use?

and is there a way to fix it without complete system reinstall
so I don't have to reinstall all software and updates etc

like for example having to reset internet explorer and then it start working ok for few months and then gets slow again. even with clearing cache and other things

is there a way to find out what exactly is causing the slowdown without having to reset?

Usually degrades over time because of installation/uninstallation of various software that modifies the system.

In IE I'd go with carnage, checking the additional apps and programs installed. windows on the other hand can experience slow-down from reinstall of software, old registry entries, startup entries, background software running.

Recommend CCleaner as a start with a registry clean. For other smaller issues, when running installation of graphic updates, software updates, try reading the fine print and custom installation to remove any unnecessary add-ons.
